Item George III silver salver Robert Jones London 1781

Of circular form with raised beaded dual rims, the centre later engraved with a wreath of floral sprays around a central shield of arms, the reverse also engraved with a floral wreath, raised on four claw and ball feet. The engraving show the arms of LOMAX of Hertfordshire and Westminster. The salver was likely commissioned by Caleb Lomax, High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, during the time that the Lomax family resided at Childwickbury Manor in St Albans. The Manor house had been built after Joshua Lomax, who at this time sat in Westminster, bought the land in 1666. The estate remained in the hands of the Lomax family until it was offered for sale in 1854.
